NEWS The winners of the 13th International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna 2009 have been announced. Alexander Schimpf, Germany, joins the list of successful, well-known prize-winners among Mitsuko Uchida, John O'Connor, Stefan Vladar, Jasminka Stancul, Oliver Kern and Herbert Schuch. After two tensioning rounds in the finale he convinced the jury members with the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, op. 37 under frenetic applause from the audience, taking the first prize of € 7.500,- and - symbolically - the key to a Bösendorfer grand piano model 200 worth € 67.830, - donated by L. Bösendorfer Piano Factory Ltd. The third prize has been awarded to Ji-Hoon Jun and Chi Ho Han ex aequo, both born in Seoul, South Korea. Diplomas and special awards went to Christian Chamorel (Switzerland), Yi-Chih Lu (Taiwan), Yusuke Kikuchi (Japan), Amir Tebenikhin (Kazakhstan), Sheng-Yuan Kuan (Taiwan), Andreas Donat (Austria), Anna Magdalena Kokits (Austria), Christopher Devine (United Kingdom) and Clemens Berg(Germany). The performance of all participants in this anniversary competition - the competition has a 50-year history - was at exceptionally high level. The international jury has met a decision with great responsibility. The ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Stefan Vladar, the only Austrian winner of this competition, led the finalists through the evening sensitively. Booklet of the final programme

The pianists are aged between 17 to 32. Come and listen to the next generation of these young pianists. Follow the competition from the 1st Stage (14 - 19 June 2009 in the Joseph Haydn-Saal, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) through the 2nd Stage (20 -21 June 2009 in the Brahms-Saal, Musikverein) to the Final (23 June 2009) in the Grosser Saal, Musikverein with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Vienna) under the conductor Stefan Vladar, and get to know first who will be the winner of this year's competition and who will be added to the list of successful pianists who have been laureates of the International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna in the past. BOESENDORFER PIANOS will be used exclusively. All stages are open to the public.
